All-School Picnic at Chelton Park

The All-School Picnic at Chelton Park will be held next Friday, September 18 from 5:30- 7:30pm. Chelton Park is just south of Chelton and Hampstead Roads in the Moreland neighborhood; please note that construction on Lee Rd. will impact traffic, and take Scottsdale Rd. instead if you can.

Please come and socialize with other Mercer families while the kids enjoy the playground. Pizza, snacks, and drinks will be provided. And there will be an opportunity to purchase Mercer gear from the Spirit Store.

Popcorn Spirit Day

Friday, September 25 is the first Popcorn Spirit Day of the school year! To join your student(s), during lunch time, please fill out this form or the one that came home in backpack mail.

Mercer Spirit Store Now Open

Through September 30, purchase Mercer gear from the online spirit store. Choose from a variety of apparel items, many customizable. Orders will be sent home with your student approximately 4 weeks after the sale ends.

It's Snack Cart Time Again!

Attention Kindergarten Families: Sign Up for the Monthly Snack Cart

The snack cart will soon be roaming the halls of Mercer, filled with treats for the Mercer teachers and staff. The treats are provided by one grade level at a time. This is one way that the PTO shows our immense appreciation for the hard work teachers and staff put in on behalf of our children each and every day- and the staff LOVE the cart!

This month’s cart is Wednesday, September 30. Kindergarten parents/guardians can now sign up to donate items for the September snack cart by checking out the Snack Cart Sign Up Genius here. Please have all items to the Mercer office by Monday, September 28 labeled "Snack Cart".

2026-2027 Mercer Yearbook information

Yearbooks can be purchased at http://treering.com/validate; use the Mercer passcode (1016953188074319) to enter. Purchase by October 31 for 10% off. Please send photos of school events and class parties to yearbook4mercer@gmail.com

5th graders will receive a yearbook as a gift from the PTO. 5th grade parents- please do not purchase a yearbook, but please create an account with Treering if you haven't already. Please send your student's name, your name, and the email address of your Treering account to yearbook4mercer@gmail.com so we can make sure a yearbook is assigned to your student.

ABOUT THE MERCER PTO

Did you know? 

All parents or guardians of students in the Shaker Heights School District are automatically members of PTO. There are no membership fees, dues, or requirements. Any parent or guardian is welcome to attend any PTO meeting or event.

Want to volunteer to lead an event or help with the PTO in general? Sign up here!

What does the PTO do? We host community building events, like our beginning of the year ice cream social, ice skating at Thornton Park, the Fall harvest Festival, and more. We support efforts like our used book fair and show love to our teachers and staff through Teacher Appreciation week. We also raise funds through annual events like the Mercer Olympics and Read-a-Thon.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

All Mercer volunteers need to complete the volunteer registration and have a background check, including fingerprinting. The district wants to make sure that anyone spending time around Shaker students and staff is legally cleared to do so. 

Who needs to be fingerprinted?

Classroom volunteers - YES

Field trip parent chaperones - YES

Volunteers at school-based PTO events - YES

Volunteers alone with students at anytime - YES

The scheduling and processing of all volunteer fingerprints/background checks will take place in the Office of Family and Community Engagement located on the second floor of the Shaker Heights Public Library Main Branch, 16500 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Heights 44120. To schedule an appointment contact:  volunteer_face@shaker.org or call 216-295-6268. 

Check with the Mercer office to see if you are already registered or need to update your status. Background checks must be completed every three years.
