Woodbury-Middle School Combined PTO Meeting, March 14

We hope you will join us to talk about the transition plans for this year's Woodbury 5th and 6th graders and Middle School 7th graders as we combine them all next year into the new 6th-8th grade Shaker Middle School. This is an open conversation for ALL questions from parents and guardians. After some discussion on volunteer openings for the new 6-8 Middle School PTO, we will have a panel discussion with next year's Shaker Middle School leadership team (Mr. Forman, et al) and our Shaker Board of Education representatives Alison Bibb-Carson and Heather Weingart. You can submit your questions ahead of time HERE or just bring them with you. We look forward to hearing your questions after the 5th and 6th grade briefings the week prior. The meeting will take place at 7pm in the Shaker Middle School Auditorium.

WO-MS PTO Meeting Presentation Sides

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Woodbury-Middle School PTO meeting last night! It was a great crowd and a lively conversation about what's to come for next year. Please remember to sign up to help volunteer (bit.ly/SMSptoRoster) as we build a new 6-8th grade middle school community. Lots of things to look forward to! Linked HERE is the slide presentation for the meeting which outlines many of the points made by our panelists Principal Forman and AP Venson. We thank Mr. Forman and Ms. Venson as well as our BOE representatives Heather Weingart and Pamela Scott for their time and attention.

Volunteer for the Middle School PTO

As we look ahead to next year, we have an exciting opportunity to develop an active and engaged PTO to serve our new 6-8th grade Middle School. The PTO is open to all caregivers of Shaker Middle School students and we welcome all whether you join us for one meeting or want to be on the executive board. We work throughout the year to plan community-building events, raise funds, and support our teachers and staff. If you’d like to join our executive board next year you can sign up for open roles HERE. Or if there’s another way you’d like to work with the PTO feel free to reach out to us at woodburyptopres@gmail.com.

Rainbow Run Moves to Spring

Shaker Middle School PTO’s largest annual FUNdraiser - the Rainbow Run - is moving to spring this year! Shaker students, families, and community members will take to the streets for a 2-mile fun run/walk through the Shaker Middle School neighborhood. Participants will experience the thrill of bursting through clouds of colored powder, aiming to turn their bright white race t-shirts the color of the rainbow. Be sure not to miss this Shaker Raider tradition, back and better than ever! More details to come!

SHMS PTO Teacher Grants Awarded

Thanks to our generous community, PTO is able to invite staff to apply for supplemental grants that support student enrichment and activities. This year, we awarded 8 grants totaling almost $5,000. Allocated funds will support:

  • Boards and helmets for the new skateboarding club
  • Capacity-building incentives for PBIS
  • Year-end celebration activities for all 7th and 8th grade teams
  • Expansion of SAVE Promise Club, an initiative of Sandy Hook Promise
  • Cleveland Museum of Art virtual classes that address social/emotional learning
  • Enrichment supplies for behavioral focused classrooms
  • Costume rental and purchase for the Theater Department
  • Financial literacy simulation program supplies for Team Legend

This spring's SMS Rainbow Run will allow us to grant additional dollars to SMS staff and students, so watch for opportunities to give what you can. Thank you for your continued support!
